2007 ZINFANDEL FESTIVAL PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT HEALTH AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR FARM WORKER FAMILIES
Free Flu Clinics to be Available at Two North County Locations
PASO ROBLES, CA (December 4, 2007) - The Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance, in partnership with Twin Cities Community Hospital, will provide free flu clinics for the farm worker population through funds raised at the 2007 Paso Robles Zinfandel Festival. Two immunization locations in Paso Robles and Shandon will be operated December 6, 8, 10, and 11. A portion of proceeds will also be donated to the Paso Robles City Library Foundation for special after school programs and La Clinica Tolosa for ongoing dental care programs. Funds for these benefactors were raised during the live and silent auctions at the annual Zinfandel Festival marquee event, Saturday, March 17, 2007.
"The Paso Robles wine country community is proud to give back to the population that makes so much of what we do possible," said Stacie Jacob, Executive Director of the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance. "We began our commitment to support the community that supports us last year with funds raised at the 2006 Zinfandel Festival and will look to continue this well into the future. To date the wine community has been able to give back over $50,000 through funds raised at the annual Zinfandel Festival." 2007 marked the 15th Annual Zinfandel Festival which is held every third weekend in March. The auctions, both live and silent, provide festival goers an opportunity to bid on lots that are both wine and lifestyle oriented and not available through regular retail or commercial channels.
The partnership with Twin Cities Community Hospital is a natural connection in working with the local community health care provider to serve a local populace. A portion of the proceeds raised at the 2007 Zinfandel Festival auction is specifically used to fund the acquisition of the individual immunizations. Twin Cities Community Hospital then provides, at no cost, appropriately licensed health care providers to administer the immunizations. "We are thrilled to be partnering with the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance," notes Twin Cities Community Hospital Chief Executive Officer Richard Lyons. "This important health and wellness outreach to the vineyard workers in our community is an excellent way to support those that make up the back bone of such an important industry in San Luis Obispo County."
Immunizations will be held at the following locations:
George Stephan Oak Park Community Center
3050 Park Street, Paso Robles
Thursday, December 6, from 4 – 7 p.m.
Saturday, December 8, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
CW Clark Park – Clubhouse
101 West Center, Shandon
Monday, December 10, from 4 – 7 p.m.
Tuesday, December 11, from 4 – 7 p.m.
A portion of the proceeds raised at the 2007 Zinfandel Festival will also go to two other programs focused on education and wellness. The Paso Robles Library Foundation’s Library Study Center program provides special after school and summer time programs for youngsters at the north end of Paso Robles, enabling children who may not have transportation to the main library to enjoy the same benefits found in a library environment. Also to benefit is La Clinica de Tolosa Dental Project, which establishes a dental home for dental treatment, prevention, emergent care, oral health, education, outreach, referral and linkage for children ages 3 through 13 in San Luis Obispo County.
The 2008 Paso Robles Zinfandel Festival Weekend is set for March 14 – 16, 2008. The Zinfandel Festival live auction and grand tasting will take place Saturday, March 15 from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets for the marquee event went on sale December 1, 2007 and advance purchase is highly recommended. The event weekend will again be filled with individual events at the area wineries.
