Aleksander by S & G Estate » Profile
The winemaking facility we built on our southeast Paso Robles estate is much like our family -- small and firmly established on a foundation of love. We do not have, nor plan for, national distribution, or desire to grow into a household brand. Our goal is to produce outstanding, award-winning wine that is reminiscent of our favorite wine style, the red blends of Bordeaux, and to further prove this region as a world-class source of merlot-based wine.
The driving force behind starting a wine business stems from living the Mediterranean lifestyle our whole lives. This means enjoying fresh, home-grown food and hand-crafted wine with virtually every meal. We are passionate about food and wine and established S&G Estate among the rolling vineyard hills of Paso Robles not only because it has the ideal climate for Bordeaux varietals, but also because it reminded us of our European roots.
Surrounded by more than 600 mission olive trees from which we make S&G Estate extra-virgin olive oil, our estate vineyards include our pride and joy, merlot, along with classic Bordeaux varietals of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, malbec and petit verdot. We also have a few rows of a grape called sousao, an exotic grape typically used to make Port-style wine.
Our brand name, Aleksander, is the formal first name of the most well-known family member, Sasha, who played six and a half years with the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers, including their most recent two championship seasons. The white label Aleksander and the black label Aleksander Reserve are always composed of at least 50% merlot, with the Reserve receiving a minimum of 24 months in barrel. Both are full-bodied red wines, layered with deeply-colored, fragrant black fruit, enhanced from ample time in French and Serbian oak.
At this time, we do not have a tasting room, but we do participate in select wine events throughout the year where we happily share our passion with you. Members of our Aleksander Wine Club automatically receive a wine shipment two times a year and have priority at purchasing additional bottles, as long as our small production allows.
