Rasmussen Vineyard & Winery » Profile

The Rasmussen family has been growing fruit for the Paso Robles wine industry for 17 years. Now we have our own small winery and tasting room! We are pleased and excited to share our vineyard and our wines with you on your Paso Robles wine country adventures.

Our current wine list includes a 3 year vertical Syrah offering starting with a wonderful 2002 vintage exhibiting the soft rounded tannins of a well aged wine. Stop by and take advantage of the rare opportunity to taste and purchase a 10 year old wine that has been carefully aged in a tightly controlled environment. Tasting is free.

Winemaker Notes:

2009 Cabernet Sauvignon
Significant jam character with intense cherry flavors offset and soften the underlying tannin structure. Aged for 24 months in 59 gallon neutral oak barrels. Alcohol content of 14.8% by volume. This wine is expected to hold well for many years with proper cellaring. Drinks nicely on its own and should pair well with a variety of foods from Mediterranean cuisine to Santa Maria style barbecue.

2002 Syrah
This 10 year old is showing beautifully. Age softened tannins, subtle dark fruit flavors and an earthy character with a hint of smoke. Aged 18 months in 100% new American-oak 59 gallon barrels and kept in a very controlled environment. Alcohol content of 14.6% by volume. Pairing with spicy salsa or rich flavorful cheeses will bring out the youthful fruit character of this wine.

2003 Syrah
Over the years I've been up and down on the 2003. The fruit did not provide the same intensity as the 2002 but has held its own nonetheless and, at times has been a favorite. Alcohol content of 14.5% by volume. Pairs best with savory foods -- rich barbecued meats, sweet sausage, French onion soup are a few that come to mind

2004 Syrah
Back to the intensity of the 2002 vintage. The 2004 Syrah has held onto its tannic roots and this shows when compared to the 2002. Aged in a combination of 2-year and new American-oak 59 gallon barrels for 18 months. Alcohol content of 14.6% by volume. Very similar to the 2002 Syrah (just 2 years younger), the earthy tannic character pairs well with foods on the bold and spicy side with just enough sweetness to bring forward the fruit flavors.
