Martin & Weyrich specializes in classic Italian grape varieties. Established in 1981, Martin & Weyrich set out to grow and produce Nebbiolo, the noble red grape of the Piedmont region of Italy. This success with Nebbiolo, along with other Italian varietals, has made Martin & Weyrich one of the premier producers of Italian varietals in the U.S. The winery produces wine from the following Italian varietals: Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Muscat Canelli, and Pinot Grigio.

The Martin Family (brothers Tom and Nick, sisters Mary and Ann and their families) purchased the 83 acre former dairy in 1981. The farm is just a few miles northeast of Paso Robles. Then they set about the complicated and arduous task of establishing a premium, estate-bottled winery. The family had been blessed with a rich background in wine. Their father, Edward T. Martin, was marketing manager for Padre Wines in the late 1930's, and was the editor of a wine trade magazine.

Becoming the new sole owners of Martin Brothers in 1998, along with their eight children, David and Mary (Martin) Weyrich are working hard on strengthening an already impressive reputation. David Weyrich has been instrumental over the years in further establishing Martin Brothers Winery as the premier producer of Italian varietals in the United States.

Martin & Weyrich Winery was the first modern grower and producer of Nebbiolo in the U.S. Nebbiolo is a challenge to master and consequently has not been planted extensively. Martin & Weyrich now produces this noble varietal in two versions:

- Nebbiolo, known for its spiciness and agreeable tannins.
- Nebbiolo Vecchio, a reserve Nebbiolo based on the vineyard's best production, aged in new French oak barrels for over two years.

Martin & Weyrich was also the first U.S. winery to produce a "Super-Tuscan blend," Cabernet Etrusco, which is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Sangiovese. The Etrusco has consistently garnered rave reviews. The winery produces Sangiovese under the name "Il Palio" in honor of Sienna where this classic grape was first planted over 2,000 years ago. Martin & Weyrich has seven clones of Sangiovese planted. "Il Palio" is recognized as one of the most intense Sangioveses produced in California.

Winemaker Craig Reed, a San Luis Obispo county native, began working in the vineyard and winery at Martin & Weyrich Winery in 1988. In 1995, Craig became the head winemaker. Craig enjoys producing Italian varietals and meeting with the public to talk about the wines.

Martin & Weyrich has over 100 acres in production, and another 150 were planted in 2000. Currently three of their vineyards are located in the Paso Robles Appellation. one is west of Highway 101 and two are east. A large planting in Edna Valley also exists, where Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Albarino are grown. Since its initial releases, Martin & Weyrich has been recognized as one of the finest and most innovative wineries on the Central Coast. Their wines can be enjoyed today, or cellared for many years as they continue to improve with age.

The Martin & Weyrich experience is much more than enjoying premium wines. Special concerts are offered throughout the year set in the Martin & Weyrich vineyard amphitheater, as well as special events.
