Vines on the Marycrest » Profile
Vines on the Marycrest is the name behind Rhone blends such as Heart of Glass, 'Round Midnight, Satin Doll and their liquid gold My Generation. New in the 2007 release are single varietal bottlings of Syrah, Petite Sirah and Zinfandel from the Remo Belli Vineyard.
In 2004 Jennifer and Victor Abascal came to Paso Robles to realize the dream of owning a vineyard and winery. The project began with tending to 50 year old Zinfandel vines planted in the 1960s by Richard Sauret and then slowly converting the 26 acre almond orchard to vineyards. Carlotta's Vineyard is a 3.5 acre field blend which will soon be blended into "Take Five." The next vines planted were Zinfandel and went into Buck's Bit to expand and increase the number of Zin vines. Now in progress is the planting of Carter's Crest a steep west facing slope planted to Grenache and Mourvedre. More vineyards are in the planning stages.
The Winery/Tasting Room is open! After a couple of years of by- appointment-only tastings in the living room Vines on the Marycrest now has a proper, albeit makeshift, tasting bar in the newly completed winery/barrel room. The surroundings are still a bit rustic, but the wines are anything but. Please come by and taste their unique blends. Located off Nacimiento Lake Drive about 3.5 miles out of town at 5076 Mustard Creek Road.
Vines on the Marycrest is testament to the force behind Victor Abascal who several years ago planted his first vines atop the Culver Crest at Marycrest Manor. Come taste the wines!
