EOS Estate Winery » Profile
California's most spectacular estate winery is conveniently located on Highway 46 East (six miles east of Highway 101). The spacious Visitor's Center welcomes large groups and individuals to taste the award-winning wines, snack on the gourmet food, shop leisurely among the fine selection of unique gifts and enjoy the rose garden surrounding the picnic area. Also take advantage of Eos' self-guided tour through the winery.
This summer Eos will offer weekly concerts and other unique events with education in mind, celebrate wine, food, art and culture at one of the Central Coast's best wineries.
While exploring the expansive terroir, the Eos "Mediterranean Marketplace" will welcome visitors with a selection of gourmet food products, fine gifts and a light lunch selection. The Italian inspired architecture and fountains, sets a relaxing scene in the midst of the Central Coast premier destination spot for travelers. While Eos has become a leading producer of wine and has increased its world wide distribution, it still also offers its guests a lush picnic area surrounded by a beautiful rose garden and views of the vines. It makes for an ideal wedding venue and with the spacious meeting room off of the visitor's center, this winery has any special event covered.
In Greek mythology, "EOS" was the name given to the "Goddess of the dawn" and legend has it that every morning she lifted the sun over the horizon to begin a new day. EOS also serves as the inspiration for the winemaking philosophy of EOS Estate Winery.
Nathan Carlson, Director of Wine Making, grew up in rural Minnesota and cites this philosophy as a reason for coming to EOS Estate Winery. "EOS has taken a bold step to become the first large winery in Paso Robles to commit to using only solar power. This fits nicely with my personal commitment. Sustainable agriculture is a key reason that I am involved in the wine industry." With over 10 years of winemaking experience, Nathan comes with a history which includes being a key member of the winemaking teams at several vineyards throughout Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties as well as in the Dundee Hills of Oregon. Nathan will spearhead the development of future releases from EOS' own estate holdings in Paso Robles. He is a master of the region's climate and weather patterns. As Nathan puts it, "EOS has established a wonderful foundation in its 20-year history. I am ready to take it to the next level to help EOS produce the most sought-after wines on the Central Coast." Nathan loves the "laidback" atmosphere of Paso Robles which he refers to as the "idealized wine country."
Our Winemaker relishes the Mediterranean growing conditions in our vineyards that allow us to craft bold, balanced bottling of Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Port, Chardonnay, and Petite Sirah. Indeed, Chardonnay and Petite Sirah have emerged as our flagship Eos wines, and are the varietals to which our ultra-premium barrel reserve "Cupa Grandis" program is dedicated.
As told in the fable, the "Lost Angel" settled on the Central Coast of California, the closest thing to heaven, and cried the tears that brought our Lost Angel Brand varietals to life. Sourced from some of the finest vineyards between Paso Robles and Santa Barbara, this exciting new lineup of fruit-forward wines epitomizes the potential of the Central Coast. The premier of Lost Angel will include 100 percent varietal releases of Chardonnay and Muscat Canelli; as well as a Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc, and Zinfandel; a Petite Sirah blended with Zinfandel; and - in keeping with the spirit of the Lost Angel -- a Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, and Sangiovese blend aptly dubbed "Mischief."
The Estate Bottled EOS portfolio includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Merlot, and two stunning dessert wines; a Late Harvest Moscato called "Tears of Dew", and a vintage dated Estate Zinfandel Port, both with award-winning packaging.
The 1997 EOS Paso Robles Zinfandel was named "Best Zinfandel of California," earning 94 points and a Gold Medal at the 1999 California State Fair. At the 2001 New World International Wine Competition, the 1998 EOS Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon received "Best of Class" and a Gold Medal. The 1997 Petite Sirah, 1997 Sauvignon Blanc, and 1999 "Tears of Dew" Moscato all took home Best of Region awards from the California State Fair. The 1999 EOS Reserve Petite Sirah won seven gold medals from prestigious competitions worldwide, and respected American wine critic Dan Berger has called the 2000 EOS Reserve Petite Sirah "Exceptional." In addition to a bevy of 90 plus scores and accolades, the 2001 Cupa Grandis Petite Sirah was recently given a 92 point score in Wine Enthusiast magazine.
