New Exhibition Opens September 2, 2011

Paso Robles, CA— Vina Robles today announced their latest juried art exhibition presented by the Central Coast chapter of the Silk Painters International (“SPIN”). The show will open on Labor Day weekend and run through the end of the year.

SPIN is an international organization that supports and encourages the professional development of silk artists and promotes the worldwide recognition of and appreciation for silk art. Silk paintings are created by painting dyes onto the stretched surface of white silk using a paintbrush. The dyes then flow into the fiber and bond with the proteins, becoming a part of the silk thread.

The show was juried by renowned local artist Sandra Kay Johnson. Some of her public works include the bronzes Web of Life and Hey, Diddle-Diddle in San Luis Obispo, the six-foot Matilija Poppy in downtown Ojai, and a flock of whimsical birds in steel and silk in the San Luis Obispo Airport. Sandra also had two silk paintings exhibited at the Smithsonian in 2005 and 2006.

The Gallery at Vina Robles was opened in Spring of 2010 and encompasses a dedicated 1,800 square-foot space at the Vina Robles Hospitality Center, featuring rotating exhibits from a variety of accomplished local artists. The Silk Painters of the Central Coast will be the fourth exhibit at Vina Robles. “Art, wine, and food have always been a classic pairing here at Vina Robles,” says Simone Michel the winery’s director of customer relations and marketing “with exhibitions like these, we bring the various senses together to create a unique wine country experience for our visitors.”

In the afternoon of Saturday, September 10, from 1 to 3 p.m., Vina Robles and the Central Coast chapter of the Silk Painters International will celebrate the opening of their latest art exhibition with an artist’s reception. The event, which is complimentary and open to the public, will include the announcement of the winners, wine tasting and light appetizers.
