for Paso Robles Wine Harvest Weekend October 16-18, 2009

New wine trail in San Miguel provides one easy route to premium wine & olive oil tasting

SAN MIGUEL, Calif. – October 9, 2009 – A group of seven premium Paso Robles wineries and one award-winning olive oil company today announced the formation of the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail http://www.pleasantvalleywinetrail.com/.

The Pleasant Valley Wine Trail is the newest group of Paso Robles wineries and businesses joining together to provide visitors with one easy route to premium wine tasting and olive oil sampling during the upcoming Wine Harvest Weekend held in Paso Robles, CA, October 16 – 18, 2009.

“As visitors are planning their routes for the upcoming Paso Robles Wine Harvest Weekend held October 16-18, 2009, we hope they’ll add the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail to their list,” said Steve Kroener of Silver Horse Winery. “There are so many wonderful treasures hidden in the hills of San Miguel, this trail provides an easy way to discover them all.”

Located in the beautiful rolling hills of San Miguel east of Paso Robles, the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail is minutes off Hwy 46 East, Hwy 101 North or Hwy 101 South.

Follow the 12-mile trail, marked with directional signs, for an unforgettable day in the wineries and amongst the vines experiencing the warm hospitality, hand-crafted wines, and undiscovered values this small yet diverse group has to offer.

Cinquain Cellars is one of Paso’s newest wineries focused on estate grown reds, including Bordeaux, Rhône, and Port varieties. Their flagship wine and debut release, the 2006 Reserve Meritage Bordeaux blend, was awarded a Gold Medal and Best in Class of Region at the 2008 California State Fair, while Robert Parker Jr. calls their 2006 Syrah “…delicious and sexy...” . Ranchita Canyon Vineyard is located on the hills overlooking beautiful Pleasant Valley, and is family owned and operated by Bill and Teresa Hinrichs -- and their twins Adam and Anna. This is their 11th harvest, and they are now making estate wines from their rich, concentrated bold fruit. The vineyard's first vines were planted in 1970, and that fruit is used for their "Old Vine" Zinfandel and Petite Sirah wines. Additional varietals have been planted starting in 2000, and other wines available include three "signature" blends, six varietals, a delicious Cabernet "Port," and three new releases. RiverStar Vineyards is family owned and operated. We have been growing great fruit in the beautiful Paso Robles area since 1986. TACKITT FAMILY VINEYARDS – Winery Open October 16 – 18, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Tackitt Family Vineyard wines are made using old style techniques in small lots to ensure the highest quality. The signature wine of Tackitt Family Vineyards is Gewurztraminer. It is produced Alsatian style of a slightly drier but intense fruit wine that complements a wide variety of foods. Along with Gewurztraminer, Tackitt Family Vineyards also produces a Bordeaux style blend, Cabernet, Zinfandel, Merlot and Riesling. In addition to these great wines, Tackitt Family Vineyards also produces a solera aged fortified dessert wine made from late harvest Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. Leon Tackitt, the head winemaker, a 27 year Navy veteran recently moved to the Paso Robles area to live out his dream of owning and operating a winery. "Corkscrewed: The Wrath of Grapes" was a reality series following the trials and exploits of award-winning entertainment producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick as they made a major investment in a long held dream - owning their own vineyard. In 2006, the vineyard went into full transformation. New plantings including grapes such as Grenache, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc and Alicante Bouché have been added amongst the existing vines. Currently, we have 119 total planted acres. Also, under drastic transformation is our winery and events center.
