GARRETSON WINE COMPANY ANNOUNCES FALL SERIES OF WINE CLASSES -"GWCUâ€
Six-Part Series Designed to Increase Knowledge of Rhône Wines
Starting in August of 2007, SLO County wine lovers will have a unique opportunity to learn more about wines made from classic Rhône grape varieties. Garretson
Wine Company has announced the schedule for its first-ever educational series - "Garretson Wine Company University" (GWCU). The series takes place at the winery on six alternate Saturdays between August 11th and October 20th, and will be taught by owner/winemaker, Mat Garretson.
"While there’s no doubting that San Luis Obispo County is the epicenter of the California Rhône movement," explains Garretson, "I continue to be surprised by how many local wine lovers are unfamiliar
as to what ‘Rhône’ really means. I felt it was high time that someone took the lead and provided wine lovers with a comprehensive Rhône wine education. And what better place to start than our own back yard?"
Taking the lead in Rhônes is a position Garretson is very familiar with. 17 years ago, he founded Hospice du Rhône, the world’s foremost organization dedicated to the promotion and celebration of these
exotic grape varieties. The winery which bears his name is now celebrating its 10th anniversary, and enjoys both high critical praise and worldwide recognition. His name is synonymous with Rhône wines, so much so that any article on Rhônes written in the U.S. over the past 15 years has either mentioned Garretson, quoted him, or has used him as a valuable source for information.
Each of the six two-hour tasting classes will deal with a different aspect of Rhône wines. Topics include, "An Introduction to Rhône Varieties", "France: The Home of the Rhône", "Rhônes of Australia",
"Rhônes of Spain", and "Rhônes of the U.S." The series culminates during the Paso Robles Harvest Wine Tour weekend with a special tasting luncheon, "Rhône Wines With Food". Attendees can sign up for each class separately, or take advantage of a special discount when enrolling for all six. Registration is open to anyone 21 years or older.
The GWCU courses are designed to benefit all wine lovers, from novice to those in the trade. Seating is limited to the first 30 paid registrants. For complete details, contact Garretson Wine Company at (805) 239-2074, or by e-mail at email@example.com.
