14th annual wine event features weekend of activities including auctions, Grand Tasting

Paso Robles, CA – Tickets are now on sale for the 14th Annual Paso Robles Zinfandel Festival, to be held March 17, 18 and 19, 2006 in Paso Robles Wine Country, located midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco on California’s central coast. Just in time for holiday gift giving, the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance has made tickets to the event’s popular Saturday night Grand Tasting/Silent Auction and Live Auction available online at and by phone at 800.549.WINE (9463).

The Paso Robles Zinfandel Festival is a three-day celebration of California’s heritage variety, Zinfandel, which was the first variety to bring acclaim to Paso Robles. More than 80 wineries will host an array of special events, including winemaker dinners, food pairings, seminars, open houses and special tastings, during the festival weekend. The main event takes place Saturday evening, March 18, at the California Mid-State Fairgrounds, where guests enjoy live and silent auctions. The Zinfandel Grand Tasting features wines from more than 40 area wineries. A special collaborative Zinfandel Festival Blend, only available to taste and purchase during the live auction will also be available.

"We are so excited to offer these tickets in time for the holidays," said Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance Executive Director Stacie Jacob. "This is the second largest Zinfandel tasting in the country and so many Paso Robles wine enthusiasts look forward to it each year. Giving a gift of Paso Robles Wine Country is like giving the gift of wine—a hundred times over."

Two ticket options are available for Saturday night’s events: an $85 complete ticket that includes the live auction, silent auction and Zinfandel Grand Tasting, and a $50 ticket to attend the silent auction and Zinfandel Grand Tasting. A portion of the proceeds from the events will be donated to causes benefiting the vineyard worker population in the local community.

"This year’s Zinfandel Festival is going to be spectacular," said Doug Beckett, 2006 Zinfandel Festival Committee Chair and owner of Peachy Canyon Winery in Paso Robles. "We have twice as many wineries hosting activities during the weekend, we’ve opened up more space for Saturday night and we have expanded the auction lots with hopes of generating twice the revenue we did last year to better benefit the community."

Auction lots will include larger-than-life wine country lifestyle packages, created by the winemakers and wine grape growers of Paso Robles. Some lots in development include ATV vineyard tours with winemakers, dinner with a winemaker or wine grape grower in their home and weekend wine country getaway packages with winemaker dinners, helicopter tours, private tastings and more.

The live auction will also be the only chance to purchase special Zinfandel blends created for the festival, including the 2006 collaborative Zinfandel Festival Blend, created by Paso Robles winemakers and blended by 2006 Blend Master Josh Beckett, winemaker for Peachy Canyon Winery.

"The wineries have brought out their best for this blend," said Josh Beckett. "This is the best juice from the best fruit from the award-winning Zinfandel producers of Paso Robles. It’s definitely a wine you won’t want to miss."

The final lot of the evening will be the official artwork of the 2006 Zinfandel Festival, a custom framed 2-foot by 4-foot oil on canvas created by Paso Robles’ Nona Haydon. The artwork can be viewed online and will be featured throughout 2006 Zinfandel Festival materials. Other auction lots will be available for viewing online in early February.

A complete list of Paso Robles Zinfandel Festival weekend activities will be available through beginning December 16 and by mail beginning mid-January.

"We still have wineries expanding their events, but we’ve had so many requests for tickets already that we wanted to be sure to have them available, so we can get them out to people before the holidays," said Jacob. "And, if we need to, we’ll make rush shipping available to make sure they are delivered in time."
