FIRESTONE VINEYARD ANNOUNCES NEW PASO ROBLES WINERY
Paso Robles, California—Firestone Vineyard announced today that it is under contract on a new winery site in Paso Robles, California. The targeted nine-acre property will complement Firestone Vineyard’s existing winery estate in Los Olivos, Santa Barbara County, and will feature a small winery and visitors center along the popular Highway 46 corridor at the intersection of Airport Road.
"We have purchased Paso Robles fruit for several vintages, and we have long been impressed with the quality of the region’s wines," said President Adam Firestone, who is also co-proprietor of Firestone Walker Brewing Company in Paso Robles. "We see this as the next chapter in our multigenerational family commitment to the Central Coast."
Firestone expects to break ground on the new winery later this year, with an expected completion by summer of 2006.
Production will be limited, with a focus on small premium lots of Bordeaux varietals, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, as well as an ultra-premium Bordeaux-style blend. "We look forward to advancing our relationships with local growers who specialize in these varietals," Firestone said.
Firestone Vineyard was founded by Adam’s father Brooks Firestone and grandfather Leonard Firestone as Santa Barbara County’s first estate winery in 1972. Firestone Walker Brewing Company was founded by Adam Firestone and brother-in-law David Walker in 1996. Brewing operations were moved to Paso Robles in 2001.
