CALIFORNIA MID-STATE FAIRâ€™S CENTRAL COAST WINE CHALLENGE
PASO ROBLES â€“ The California Mid-State Fair announced today the results of the Central Coast Wine Challenge, held Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18 at the California Mid-State Fairgrounds. The five (5) classes were Pinot Noir, Blended Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chardonnay, with each class yielding awards for Best of Show, as well as Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
The overall Best of Show went to Silverstone Winery located in Paso Robles, with their 2003 Syrah. The Central Coast Wine Challenge had over 250 wines entered, from 84 different wineries. Entries were accepted from San Luis Obispo, Monterey and Santa Barbara counties.
Four (4) of the five divisional Best of Show winners were from San Luis Obispo County. Piedra Creek, San Luis Obispo, won with their 2003 Blended Red Wine; Meridian Vineyards, Paso Robles, won with their 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon; Silverstone Winery, Paso Robles, won in the Syrah division with their 2003 Syrah, and Edna Valley Vineyards, Edna Valley, won the Chardonnay division with their 2004 Chardonnay. Best of Show in the Pinot Noir division went to Meridian Vineyards, Santa Barbara County for their 2003 Pinot Noir.
