2005 SPECIAL EVENTS AT ADELAIDA CELLARS
Paso Robles Winery Rolls Out Ambitious Program

Paso Robles, California (February 22, 2005) -- Paralleling major production changes over the last two years, Adelaida Cellars has launched an aggressive special events program for the remainder of 2005. The lineup features an educational seminar series, gourmet food tastings, cooking demonstrations, winemaker dinners and Sunday brunches. In addition, the ultra-premium winery will participate in public events produced by the Paso Robles Vintners and Growers Association, the Far Out Wineries and the Great Western Bicycle Rally.

The event program is the conception of Owner Elizabeth Van Steenwyk, a published author of children's books. "We want the public to know that our special events are as interesting as our wines," said Van Steenwyk. "Terry [Culton] has raised the bar with his unique approach to winemaking and our event season mirrors his commitment to excellence."

A sold-out wine barrel summit conducted by Culton in January 2004 was the harbinger of this year's educational seminars. The series kicks off April 10 with "The Viticulture of Thomas Jefferson" in recognition of the 3rd U.S. president's contribution to the wine trade. It continues with "Wines of the Mission" in honor of California's first vintners and vineyards. Lastly, culinary events scheduled in October, November and December will provide different configurations of education, demonstration and hands-on experience.

"Second Sunday Brunches" are an Adelaida Cellars original. Chef Christian Raia of Bakersfield's Petroleum Club provides the creativity behind monthly meals underscored by seasonal themes: Mother's Day in May, Graduation in June, Red Wine and Blue in July, Picnic in the Park in August, and Anniversaries in September. All will be staged at the winery's wedding site, a shaded hilltop setting with impossible vistas.

Other house events include a segment of the 41st Annual Great Western Bicycle Rally called the "Wine Taster's Tour" (Memorial Day Weekend), the 2nd Annual Adelaida Cellars Beaujolais Nouveau Festival (November 19), and a New Years Eve celebration (details to be announced).

Winemaker dinners are slated at Paris Restaurant (Paso Robles), Villa Creek Restaurant (Paso Robles), Adelaida Cellars (with Sycamore Mineral Springs, San Luis Obispo), and a fourth location to be determined.

A detailed chronology of all events follows.

Culton has made sizeable changes to the winemaking program since taking over in February 2003. Adelaida was an "American oak house" prior to the 2002 vintage where large "dosages" of oak masked the varietal character and terroir in many of the wines. This was most evident in Pinot Noir where French oak is now the rule.

Established in 1981, Adelaida Cellars is a family-owned and operated vineyard and winery situated 16 miles from the Pacific Ocean at 1,800 feet of elevation in the Santa Lucia Mountains. Its award-winning pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, syrah and chardonnay originate in two principal vineyards that are recognized for their chalky mountain soils, temperate climates and long growing seasons. Planted in 1963, HMR Estate Vineyard boasts the oldest pinot noir vines on the South Central Coast while Viking Estate Vineyard has formed the backbone of Adelaida's steadfast Cabernet program since 1996. The winery offers many interactive functions throughout the year: an inviting tasting room, educational seminars, library tastings, wine club events, scheduled vineyard tours, winemaker dinners, and seasonal festivals produced by the Paso Robles Vintners & Growers Association (pasowine.com).
