VITICULTURE EXPERT DR. CARMO VASCONCELOS FEATURED SPEAKER AT GRAPEVINE PHYSIOLOGY COURSE
Noted viticulture expert Dr. Carmo Vasconcelos will be the featured speaker at the Paso Robles Vintners and Growers Association (PRVGA) Quality Alliance half-day educational seminar for winegrape growers on Wednesday, March 31st.
Dr. Vasconcelos, Associate Professor and Extension Specialist of Viticulture at Oregon State University, will review the aspects of vine physiology relevant for quality wine production. The basics of carbohydrate production and partitioning, and how it can be manipulated with cultural practices will be also be discussed. Her research interests deal with sustainable viticulture and cultural practices affecting fruit composition. Vasconcelosâ€™ main research goals are the understanding grapevine physiology, in particular how to optimize carbohydrate production and allocation (photosynthesis and translocation) through appropriate choice of rootstock, canopy management, nutrition, and irrigation.
The Grapevine Physiology Seminar will be held at the Paso Robles Library Conference Center, 1000 Spring Street in Paso Robles from 8:30 a.m. to noon. This important seminar is open to all vineyard owners as well as managers and consultants. There is no charge to PRVGA members and a $50 fee for non-members.
